Day -1 – Tuesday23June 2026

Flight: London → Porto

  • Airline: Ryanair (FR 519)

  • Arrive: 09.00 – Porto, Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport (OPO)
  • Flight time: 2h 25m (Portugal is same time zone as UK)

  • One traveller will need a foldaway hold bag for walking poles.

Luggage Transfer (Camino Days)

Service: Correos Paq Mochila (Spanish Post Office)

  • Luggage is collected from your hotel reception each morning and delivered to the next hotel by afternoon.
  • Service is widely used and recommended by Wise Pilgrim and Camino Forums.
  • I will pre‑book all stages online.
  • You simply attach the printed label they provide.

Important (Day 1):

  • Leave your main bag at Vigo hotel reception by ~08:00.
  • You will walk with a daypack only.





Day 0 – Arrival in Vigo

Stay:

Suggested Evening Meals (Vigo):

  • Maruja Limón – modern Galician.
  • A Pedra (oyster & tapas area) – informal, atmospheric.

Route Overview (Vigo → Santiago)

Nightly stops (confirmed): Vigo → Redondela → Pontevedra → Caldas de Reis → Padrón → Santiago de Compostela
This matches the commonly published staging for walking the last ~100 km on the Portuguese Coastal route starting in Vigo, where it then continues to Redondela and joins the central route. (

Day 1 – Thursday 25 June 2026 Vigo → Redondela (15–16 km)


Breakfast / Early Coffee (Day 1):

 

Terrain:

  • Gentle and easy.


Highlights:

  • Woodland paths and hamlets
  • Views over the Ría de Vigo
  • Redondela, where the coastal route meets the central route

Stay:

  • Casa Mucha – well-known local favourite (no clear standalone website; listings below).
  • Asador O Rancho – grills & hearty portions (social page).

Breakfast / First Stop (after ~60–90 mins):

  • Arcade / Ponte Sampaio area has classic pilgrim cafés.

Terrain:

  • Some uphill sections; manageable.



Day 2 Friday 26 June 2026 – Redondela → Pontevedra (19 km)


Highlights:

  • Ridge walk with views of the Ría
  • Roman bridge at Ponte Sampaio
  • Pontevedra old quarter

Stay:

  • Hotel Rías Bajas €125

Suggested Evening Meals (Pontevedra):

  • Eirado da Leña / O Eirado – excellent cooking in the old town.
  • Loaira Xantar – consistently good.
  • Ultramar – casual tapas & wine.

Breakfast / First Stop:

  • Café options around Arcade / Ponte Sampaio are popular with pilgrims.

Terrain:

  • Moderate climbs; very scenic.



Day 3 Saturday 27 June 2026 – Pontevedra → Caldas de Reis (22 km)


Highlights:

  • Forest tracks and vineyards
  • Thermal spa town arrival

Stay:

  • Hotel Bainearo €110

Suggested Evening Meals (Caldas de Reis):

  • O Muiño (Taberna O Muiño) – classic by the river.
  • Roquiño (Restaurant/Bar) – traditional flavours.

Breakfast / First Stop:

  • Small bars appear regularly on this stage; you’ll usually find a coffee stop within the first 6–8 km.

Terrain:

  • Easy-going and tranquil.



Day 4 – Sunday 28 June 2026 Caldas de Reis → Padrón (19 km)

Highlights:

  • Waterfalls near Carracedo
  • Chestnut groves
  • Historic Padrón (St James legend)

Stay:

  • Os Lambráns €130

Suggested Evening Meals (Padrón):

  • Chef Rivera – famous for Padrón peppers.
  • Pulpería Rial – octopus specialty.

Breakfast / First Stop:

  • Rural bars appear frequently; a first stop after ~90 minutes is usually straightforward.

  • Rolling hills; pleasant walking.



Day 5–Monday 29 June 2026 Padrón → Santiago de Compostela (24–25 km)

Highlights:

  • Gradual ascent into Santiago
  • Cathedral finish & collecting the Compostela

Suggested Evening Meals (Santiago – celebration):

  • O Dezaseis – classic post-Camino meal.

Terrain:

  • Steady climb; emotional finish.
